Day 81 (Thu 25 Mar 1330 - Fri 26 Mar 1330)
A close battle is emerging as Ocean Summit lead the Beech boys by just 1 nm at the end of the 81st day and are within the last 100nm. Judging by their co-ordinates they could well be insight of each other. Both are looking to make land on Saturday afternoon.
Sean McGowan successful passed into the last 1000nm, and with it the remaining 9 crews have just 3500nm to go between them.
James Ketchell had a ‘chat’ with the captain of a super tanker a couple of days ago. He was probably a little concerned as a 300m long tanker was heading has way, containing the equivalent of 10 million barrels of oil, but when he explained what he was doing, the captain quickly steered to avoid him. The Beech Boys have said that they are looking forward to fresh pineapple, cheese burgers and salad when they make land in Antigua, saying that it will be nice not to have to boil water to cook a meal.
Crews will continue to have easterly and north easterly winds over the weekend with speeds of up to 15 knots, though could rise to 20 knots in certain areas.
